In 2003, Saint Andrew received two grants for a new initiative which was then called the Center for Worship and Arts. The Center was conceived as an entity (separate from our operating budget/leadership structure) that would provide opportunities for Saint Andrew members to explore faith and develop spiritual practices in creative ways, and to provide resources to other congregations/organizations to enhance their worship and community life.
As our congregation continued to grow quickly, so too, did the needs and opportunities for ministry. Thanks to additional funding, we were able to expand the Center to meet those opportunities. Children and families form a special focus of this initiative, including the work of Denise Dugan, Children's Ministry Coordinator. Gary Duncan continues as Art Director. To reflect this expanded ministry, the center’s name was changed to the Center for the Arts and Spirituality.
Special program initiatives and future planning include:
Children’s Programming
Development of comprehensive Christian formation program for children, including Sunday morning programs, intergenerational and family events, and camps/retreats.
Development of summer “art camps” for children/youth in the community (Saint Andrew Kids, TLC Kids, Migrant Farmworkers Project Youth, etc.)
Adult Programming
Growth opportunities including workshops, seminars or retreats on prayer practices, journaling, integrating prayer and justice issues, literature and faith, etc., including events led by outside resource persons.
Continuing Education
Workshops for area churches on “sacred space,” the history and theology of worship, the use of creativity and the arts in worship
Offering continuing education for lay and licensed ministers, as well as other educational programming to be developed as we gain input from the staff and congregation.
